He studied chemistry at the Technical University of Darmstadt where he focused on physical chemistry and chemical technology.

For his Ph.D. he went to Cambridge (England) where he worked in the area of physical organic chemistry. He joined Kraus & Weisert in 1999, qualified as a patent attorney in 2004 and became a partner in 2005.

His specialty in the patent area are inventions in the fields of pharmaceutical and polymer chemistry, materials sciences, and chemical processes. He has extensive experience in the prosecution of European patent applications, opposition proceedings and frequently represents clients in oral proceedings before the European Patent Office.

Dr. Beckmann’s hobbies include computer programming and digital photography, the latter especially in combination with long-distance hiking, mountain biking, skiing or snowshoeing in the Alps. His current ambition is to complete the Munich to Venice hiking trail.
